Summer itching; when itching appears, apply Derfen Original at the base of the manes directly to the skin and massage gently. Reapply when the horse scratches again.
Winter scratching: scratching in winter is not, by definition, a "summer" dermatitis. Although a winter's warm spell may sometimes lead us to believe that insects are responsible, this is very often not the case. There are many reasons for this, depending on the individual case: phtyriosis (lice), a dietary problem (deficiency, excess, imbalance), a gastric problem (pain, ulcer), a contact allergy (rugs, etc.), a reaction to medication, a stressful change in situation, etc. Derfen Original will help considerably to relieve itching each time it is reapplied, but the cause needs to be investigated in order to provide long-term care for the animal.
Lice & parasites; very common and highly contagious, lice tend to cause intense scratching, localised on the head, mane, tail and also the limbs (and not necessarily all at once). Lice are not always very visible to the naked eye because of the hair, but the onset of scratching for no apparent reason may be a sign of phthyriosis. In this case, contact your vet for appropriate treatment.
