Gastric ulcers are the main cause of poor digestive performance in racehorses and sport horses.
In breeding, gastric ulcers can be a sign of poor development, particularly in foals.
External clinical signs that may indicate gastric disease:
- Loss of appetite
- Difficulty finishing ration
- Lack of drive when exercising
-Altered behavior
-Decreased performance
-Poor general condition
-Weight loss
Low-intensity postprandial colic
Some horses show no external signs at all. Gastroscopic examination is decisive in confirming gastric ulcers.
